Competition entry for the re-use of two silos of the former installation for a sewer sanitation on Zeeburger Island Amsterdam (NL). In collaboration with Fortress Vastgoed, Stichting THT2100 en Stichting Metropolis.
When the water purification plant of the city of Amsterdam was relocated from Zeeburger Island to the harbour area, in order to make way for a new housing district, three characteristic silos were saved as a reminder of the past. With one of the three silos already being developed, only two silos were subject of the competition organised by the municipality of Amsterdam. The proposal focused on regaining a logical unity between the silos by transforming the entire ensemble and incorporating the new plans of the third silo into one new iconic landmark for the new urban development of Zeeburger Island. The mediatheque, a box-shaped volume proposed on top of the two existing silos, will function as a new public space with a great view on the city. On top of the mediatheque three smaller volumes are envisioned, containing a restaurant, a congress space and a wedding chapel. The two existing silos give space to respectively a theatre and the floors of the supporting offices.
