Internationale Architectuur Biënnale Rotterdam

Great to lecture and give a workshop at the Internationale Architectuur Biënnale Rotterdam. At the 7th Practice Place Building Feminist Practice, we will work with themes from The Other Building Site, our research upon alternatives for the money and time driven, extractive masculine building culture. The research is funded by the Stimuleringsfonds voor de Creative Industrie.
House DS

The major transformation of the DS house in Amsterdam has begun. The small house already shows great spaciousness. The project is developed in collaboration with Marjan van Herpen Architect and will be finished in the first quarter of 2025.
Pavillion Nieuw + Meer

For an artist's studio complex on the outskirts of Amsterdam, we are asked to develop a low-coast exposition building. The design will be completely circular. The translucent polycarbonate is 'harvested' from demolished greenhouses. The rest of the materials are bio based; local straw and (re-used) wood. The nature inclusive building will be light weight to keep the soil and ecology under the lifted building mainly undisturbed.

A Perfect Day II

Tekenshow A Perfect Day shows from 22th of September till 2nd of October in Amsterdam. The exposition features great work of o.a. David Shrigley, Beni Bischof, Koos Busters, Bruin Parry + Jan Hoek, Olga Scholten, Paul Faassen, Javier Mayoral, performances of Laura van Dolron, Katinka Polderman, Rogier Roeters and workshops by Maarten Bel o.a. It was again a joy to design the scenography + complete circular exposition for this great hybrid show. A show we also got the opportunity to design in 2020. We are testing and prototyping the composition of materials, measurements and the detailing of the joint for the adobe mud-bricks of Greenhouse Kompier. In June we will hold a workshop and produce the bricks ourselves together with the potential users in the greenhouse on site. We are looking forward to it!
Constructing Houses in Wood

This spring Paulien Bremmer guides a studio at the TU-Delft on house-construction in wood. In the next three months a.o construction techniques in CLT, Glulam and modular building are researched and applied by the students in the design of the biobased dwellings.
The Digital Building

The internal website for the project spaces of the Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Instituut is online. It organises the possibility for students to make temporary use of so called projectspaces: free spaces which are distributed throughout the building. These project spaces stimulate collaboration and interdisciplinary work. The idea of the projectspaces and the corresponding website is part of our winning competition design for the extension of the art academy. Additional to designing the physical building, we had the possibility to add our concept of free educational spaces to the program of the school. We like to see the website as ‘the digital building’.

Publication GRA in Schooldomein
The expansion of the Rietveld Academie is published in the magazine Schooldomein; magazine for sustainable learning environments. The publication payed attention to the building being awarded schoolbuilding of the year.
